Start with the calendar
Before looking at price, check upcoming releases: CPI, PCE, NFP, unemployment, PMI, retail sales, FOMC and Fed speeches. A major statistic can make a clean setup much harder to read minutes later.
Identify the macro theme of the day
Read priority news and look for the thread: restrictive Fed, dollar pressure, rising yields, geopolitical stress or no clear catalyst. A session without a dominant theme often requires more patience.
Compare XAU/USD with DXY and US10Y
If gold rises while DXY and yields fall, the move is more coherent. If signals diverge, avoid concluding too fast. The goal is to know whether price is supported or challenged by its main drivers.
Use the Bias Desk as a synthesis
The Bias Desk is not an automatic signal. It groups momentum, macro, risk tone and event risk. If it displays WAIT, it may simply mean conditions are not aligned enough.
Finish with the risk plan
Once the context is clear, the chart helps define timing, invalidation and size. The best macro read does not protect against poor execution or excessive risk.
Frequently asked questions
How long should an XAU/USD routine take?
A useful routine can take only a few minutes if structured: calendar, news, DXY, US10Y, Bias Desk, then chart. Consistency matters more than duration.
Should you follow every news item before trading?
No. You mainly need to identify themes that can change the dollar, yields, safe-haven demand or volatility. Reading too many sources can create more confusion than clarity.
